Again he amazes me! Holden was feeling a little sleepy this morning so the doctor stopped his morphine. He started waking up, with some help from mom and dad poking and talking to him. Then he opened his eyes! Wide open. And he kept them there for about five minutes. The nurse quickly notified the doctor and they jumped quickly to remove his breathing tube. They wanted to do it when he was awake, so he would quickly take over his own breathing. Bryan and I stepped out of the room for them to perform the removal. When we returned, we had a sleepy baby with no breathing tube and far less tape on his face.
He has a face again! His swelling is so much better. I'm hopeful that when we go back tonight, he will be ready for some eye contact.
