7 months old! And he's wonderful! Our little man has mastered sitting this month. He's also showing preference for Mommy when being held by someone else. Which melts my heart. Sleeping is great. He gets up just once a night, usually between 2 and 4. His bedtime is 6:30 and he's up between 6 and 6:30 in the morning. He still doesn't stay up too long. After being up for 1.5 hours he starts to get fussy again and want to go to bed. If we are out shopping, he won't fuss and will instead just enjoy all the action. But I have to be careful with this. If I ignore his signs for sleep, his naps get shorter. It's opposite of what you would guess- If I keep him up, he sleeps less. If I put him to bed when he first gets tired, he sleeps wonderfully. And wakes up in a great mood! Good naps are usually 1.5-3.5 hours each. Bad napping days are 40 minutes, but it's my own fault. I can't praise the book, Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child enough. Thank you so much to my co-worker, Laurel for telling me about it.
Christmas brought all kinds of new toys and awful sleep for Holden and Mommy and Daddy. But we survived and were thankful to be back in our own home and beds. Some of Holden's favorite toys thus far: the piano from Uncle Jeremy and Aunt Belinda, his first ball from Aunt Gail, and his wind up bath toys from the Johnson's. Unfortunately, Cooper and Beasley have loved Holden's yellow duck from Jennifer, the glow worm from Uncle Nathan, and the Arkansas Monkey from cousin Emily. I scold the dogs anytime they even get close to them. I've rescued worm, monkey and duck from the backyard several times and promptly put them in the washer for a bath. They've turned out great after each wash cycle!
Food... Holden has been eating sweet potatoes, pears, and squash. We start oatmeal next week and move up to double the amount of each food. BMs have been very different, and almost easier to clean up now. I'm still loving our gDiapers. I haven't used the disposable liners that "lift the poo" away. I've just been tossing the solids in the potty and changing the absorbent pad. I'm still focusing on breast milk as his main source of calories. After he's eaten his fill of milk, we offer the solids just as a way to practice. I plan to continue this until he's one.
Sign Language: our vocabulary consists of milk, sleep, diaper, eat, mom, dad, all done, and bath. He doesn't sign back to us yet, but I've read that they can begin this around 8 months.
New Firsts this month: riding in the cart at the grocery store and sitting in a high chair at restaurants. I like being able to see Holden while shopping now. Although, I do miss having him wrapped in my Moby wrap... all close and snugly! Just the first of many "stepping away" actions I will do for my little man. I still plan to use the Moby wrap when a cart is not available, or if he's needing some nap time while we are out.
Healthier home, healthier family: I've switched our laundry detergent and dryer sheets for healthier alternatives. I also took advantage of the unseasonably warm weather and opened the windows to air out the house.
Teeth: Two! And he was a champ, no extra fussing.
