He just keeps growing! Every week is different it seems. I'm constantly having to change in order to make him happy. Bryan and I are working on reducing the amount of bouncing we do. We used to bounce him until he fell asleep. But at 11 lbs, I'm struggling to extend his weight away from my body and bounce him.
In this second month of life, we have started a few new things that are worthy of blogging.
- cloth diapers. Bryan and I have known that we want to use cloth diapers since I was pregnant. We have been using chlorine free disposables for these first few weeks home. We currently have three brands we are comparing: bum genius, fuzzybums, and flip. If you have any suggestions for these three reusables, please let me know. So far, I've liked each. The only front runner right now is bum genius as it adjustable to accommodate him as he grows. The fuzzybums are sized sml, med, and lrg. So we would have to buy sizes as he grows. I'm incredibly impressed with how they function so far. The first two have a fuzzy fabric that touches baby and then a cloth insert that does all the absorption. Believe it or not, this fuzzy fabric stays dry. I even smashed my hand into a wet diaper to experiment. All the fluid moves through this fabric and lands on the absorption pad below. So baby always feels dry. And everything is machine washable! The flip is more of a traditional cover with a cloth diaper insert. So you would just replace the cloth diaper part with each change. And you get to reuse the cover for a few changings. When we figure out which one we like, we will make an investment into several.
-returning to work. I went to work on Tuesday. Just for 4 hours though. I'm hoping to make a slow smooth transition to starting full time in September. Holden did well with Nanny and Bryan. He took a bottle and then did some napping. Lately he has taken a lot of encouragement to go to sleep and stay asleep. He prefers a quick 15 minute nap. We are trying to persuade him that naps should be more of 1-1.5 hours long. It felt good to get back "out in society" as some might say. I liked having that bit of independence again, a feeling of making a difference, getting tasks done. But I was so worried about how he was doing with Nanny. I seem to have this idea that Holden is happiest with me. So I always worry about his attitude with other people. He did absolutely the same with them as he does with me. I'm a dork.
-goos and coos. Holden has started vocalizing! It is so much fun for me. He typically has about 1 hour after he eats that he talks and interacts with me. Then the sleepy fussiness kicks in. We sit and stare at each other. I make ridiculous noises and funny sounds and he responds with his own sometimes. I try to mimic him and include him in a real conversation as I've heard Bryan said we should encourage him to do. Along with his noises have come smiles! He's beautiful.
- family pictures. Bryan's high school friend, Rachel, took some family portraits of us. Rachel is a wonderful wedding and portrait photographer who now lives in the San Francisco area. She was in town for the July holiday. So I snagged her one morning to do a little session of us. It was also Holden's 4 wk birthday! I'll post several of the shots here. She did a fantastic job. Her blog is http://rachelblackwellphotography.com/blog/

I love the pictures of you three!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to comparing notes on cloth diapers. We've been using the chlorine free disposables and G diapers so far. I've been impressed with how easy the cloth diapers actually are!
